Toshiba RT-8037 Bluetooth Boombox
Double cassette deck and radio from 1987, now with added bluetooth!
We love the look of this one. With the handle raised it has a distinctly quirky appeal. The handle carries through the rounded corners of the speaker surrounds and the narrow side on view give this boombox a bit of a character. It’s been modified using the popular switch method.
We found this one listed in the 1987 Autumn/Winter Argos catalogue. How’s that for retro!
Toshiba RT-8037 Stereo Radio Cassette Recorder. Long. medium, short and stereo VHF waveband coverage. Tone control. Twin cassette with high-speed dubbing and continuous play. Output 2x9watt. Operates from 240V ac mains or 6x R14S batteries.
As with all of our boomboxes, this Toshiba RT-8037 has been internally modified to add modern bluetooth audio into the original circuitry. This one has been modified using the popular switch method, which tweaks your nostalgia by enabling the bluetooth when you press the Play button.
Fully serviced, new drive belts fitted, lubrication applied and controls cleaned. During servicing we noticed a minor issue with this one, which you need to be aware of. It doesn’t really affect it’s use when playing the Bluetooth, which is how we envisage it will likely be used.
When the volume slider is set below about one third of the way up, so still fairly low volume, the stereo balance is skewed towards one speaker. Above that level, it is fine. It’s just some minor wear and tear from its almost 40 years of service.
When using bluetooth, the volume can be controlled directly by your phone or bluetooth device anyway, in the normal way, so this minor defect shouldn’t impact your enjoyment of what is as a great looking, authentic, vintage bluetooth boombox.
Each boombox is individually listed, so the images are of the actual boombox you will receive. Check the Additional Information for some fun facts and figures.
