Description

A really nice Hitachi TRK-3D30E Bluetooth Boombox.

Released in 1989, you can see the styling is more rounded and, in a way, more discrete than the relatively boxy and shouty models from the mid 80’s. The visual cues are not shy about its potential though, and it is certainly shouty when you want it to be!

Part of the popular and highly collectable range of “3D Super Woofer” boomboxes from Hitachi we very much have a soft spot for. With 4 band radio, dual top mounted tape decks, high-speed dubbing, built-in power lead stowed in the battery compartment and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

This Hitachi TRK-3D30E now has its Bluetooth twist! Making use of the Line-In method. To connect to Bluetooth you simply select Line-In on the function switch. There is a discrete button added to the rear too, to disable the Bluetooth if you want to use the actual Line-In inputs without the Bluetooth getting in the way.

It has two 4″ full range drivers and a centre 4″ woofer, enabled with the big red oh-so-tempting “3D System” button. It is plenty loud enough at 20W and has a nice warm sound quality with the woofer engaged. Quite surprisingly so in fact. We’ve been very impressed with it.

The 3 band graphic equaliser is very effective, smoothly adjusting bass woofer and a nice clear top end. We found the TRK-3D30 had good mid range as-is and altered the lows and highs to suit the music and volume.

It has been lovingly cleaned and serviced, including replacing some ageing capacitors in the amplifier with high quality Japanese replacements.
