Coming soon (June 2025)

3D Super Woofer logo on speaker grill of Hitachi 3D30E

It’s been a while since we put anything up here but it’s been far from quiet. It’s been quite a hectic period.

So much so that there just hasn’t been much of an opportunity to do any work for ourselves!

It’s high time that changed, so here goes..

Kicking things off with a really nice Hitachi 3D30E, on the bench now. I’m a bit of a fan of the Hitachi 3D range, so tend to pick them up when they come up at a reasonable price. This is one of the smaller ones in the range, released in 1989. Some of them are humungous, which of course is no bad thing, but they do take up alot of space.

This one has the classic double tape deck on the top left, with a dedicated bass speaker in the centre at the front. The pic shows the 3D Super Woofer logo on the front grill as a bit of a teaser.

It’s going to be treated to a good service and clean up. Not forgetting the all important Bluetooth! This has a Line-In input but, as always, will need further investigation to see whether Line-In is the best option for Bluetooth’ing. If not then the switch method will be used instead.

Either way, it’ll be on the site soon!

Welcome to Bluetooth Boombox!

Boombox logo

Remember those heady days when you carried a giant stereo radio cassette player around with you?

It wasn’t just because you wanted your music with you, the style of the stereo and the looks were a personal choice that reflected the you of the era. It was always something aspirational, longed for, coveted.

The giant 80s ghetto blaster or the sleek looking 90s boombox both strived to convey a style and an attitude to reflect that of their owner.

Now, some [ insert number of choice ] years later, they represent a part of life often longed for. Nostagia pulls us back towards the things we had from “those days” – or perhaps the things we always wanted or dreamed about owning but never could.

Well now’s your chance!

You’ll find an ever growing list of glorious nostalgic ghetto blasters and boomboxes here, all of which have that certain something. The something that pulls us back there. The something that feeds a need. That’s retro!

Is it right to call it a need? Some would disagree. Do you?

We’ll be talking about our newly listed models and the renovations to bring them back to their glory days. We’ll be sharing our thoughts on them, how they sound, how they make us feel, will you join us? What do you think? Let us know in the comments, or find us on social media.
